DATA TECHNICIAN

Ideally applicants will have some relevant experience but we will consider inexperienced applicants with a “can do” attitude, a relevant background and the ability to learn quickly. Training will be given in our methodologies and software.

Primary tasks would include:

• Receive and log data via email, electronic transfer, FTP, CD, etc.

• Assess, audit, prepare and restructure data for its intended use 

• Understand, interpret and standardise any coding and/or data descriptions
  to enable information to be easily understood by marketing staff

• Analyse and segment customers and their transaction data

• Prepare reports and templates using Microsoft Excel and other tools

• Mapping - transform data into geographic maps, create sales territories, assist with building web-based information systems

• Prepare and control data for operational email and mail campaigns
  and assist with the setting up of rules-driven campaign microsites

• Provide operational support for data-driven direct marketing campaigns

Secondary tasks:

• Remove duplicate records, merge files and enhance quality

• Validate and enhance addresses – UK, European and worldwide

• Support web site and microsite management

• Assist with statistical modelling, forecasting...

• Liaise with clients and suppliers

Applicants should possess the following skills/attributes:

• A numerate background (e.g. Maths ‘A’ Level)

• Willingness to learn in a pro-active environment - finding answers yourself when not available from within the company

• Be innovative, actively seeking to add value to customer solutions

• Be thorough and meticulous with attention to detail being imperative

• Good written and verbal communication skills

• Understanding of Windows based PCs and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel

• Willing and able to learn advanced IT and data related skills

• High personal commitment to the delivery of quality work

• Ability to translate findings about customer data into actionable business intelligence reports easily understood by non-technical personnel

Exposure to or knowledge of any of the following would be advantageous:

• Multi-lingual skills, especially European languages

• Databases (including SQL Server/MY SQL) or direct marketing systems

• Marketing and campaign analysis techniques

• SPSS or other analytical software

• Using and writing syntax and macros, etc, to automate procedures

• Ability to develop utility programmes - specifically PHP - but also VB, .Net, Java

• Web page creation

• Targeting, analysis, mapping, address cleaning or de-duplication software

• Hardware configuration and support

• Web Server and firewall configuration and support

• File merging and de-duplication

• Report development in Excel

Location: Peterborough, Cambs.

Typical salary range: £15K-£20K dependent on experience, plus bonus scheme

Contract: Permanent / Full time

TRAINEE DATA TECHNICIAN

Tasks would include:

• Receiving data via email, FTP etc

• Assessing and auditing data, specifically names, addresses, dates, etc.

• Formatting and structuring data and files

• Understanding, interpreting and standardising coding and linkages of data files

• Removing duplication, merging files and enhancing data quality

• Validating and enhancing addresses

• Preparing reports and templates using Excel

• Mapping - using various software tools and methodologies to convert
  geographic data into maps

Applicants should possess the following skills/attributes:

• Willingness to learn in a pro-active environment - finding answers yourself when not available from within the company

• A numerate background (e.g. Maths ‘A’ Level)

• Be innovative, actively seeking to add value to customer solutions

• An understanding of Windows based PCs and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel

Starting salary range: £9K-£12K plus bonus scheme
